Quantitative Research Analyst

Chicago-based boutique algorithmic trading firm is looking for a quantitative analyst to work closely with the Quantitative Research team. Experience in mathematical modeling and statistical data analysis is required. Previous experience or course work in finance, business, or economics is NOT required. Candidate must be a very good communicator and a creative problem solver.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Identify and execute computational analyses, and present results to the team
  • Perform historical data validation, model validation, and portfolio back-testing
  • Develop and maintain analytics tools and manage large historical data sets

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS/MS – Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or other quantitative discipline
  • Knowledge of the principles of statistical analysis, including descriptive and predictive model construction.
  • Statistical modeling with MATLAB, R, or equivalent.
  • Basic SQL coding; additional programming preferred.

AlphaWorks seek a creative problem-solver who is passionate about technology and enjoys working on complex problems as part of a unique team. The role will involve developing applications and libraries for our algorithmic trading system. The work will involve high-performing, low latency code. The developer will be expected to work the full development life-cycle from requirement sourcing, architecture & design, through to support and maintenance. AlphaWorks’ open and collaborative environment encourages input and new ideas from everyone on the team.

Qualifications:
• 1-3 years’ experience in C++ in a Unix/Linux and/or Windows environment
• Experience in multi-threaded and real time programming applications
• Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work quickly to complete development cycles
• Network/socket programming experience is a plus, but not necessary
• Passion for solving complex problems through the use of technology
• Critical reasoning skills
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision

Education:
Bachelors or Masters in engineering, computer science, or mathematics
